Biography[]
Abdul Rahim Muslim Dost was born on 1 January 1960 to a family of Sunni Muslim Pashtuns in Afghanistan, and on 17 November 2001 he was captured during the United States invasion of Afghanistan. He wrote poetry while imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, while his work The Broken Chains was in the process of being translated to English in 2015. He was released in 2005 after being found to have not been a combatant, but Dost was rearrested in 2006 by Pakistan, only to be released again. In July 2014 he swore allegiance to Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of the Islamic State, becoming a recruiter for Wilayat Khorasan in September. He distributed IS books in the tribal belt of Pakistan and Afghanistan, inspiring many Afghans to join ISIS.
