Abdul-Karim Mousavi Ardebili (28 January 1926-23 November 2016) was Chief Justice of Iran from 28 June 1981 to 30 June 1989, succeeding Mohammad Beheshti and preceding Mohammad Yazdi.
Biography[]
Abdul-Karim Mousavi Ardebili was born in Ardabil, Iran on 28 January 1926, and he studied religion in Najaf, Iraq in 1946. Ardebili supported Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini during his rise to power, and he became a founder of the Islamic Republican Party and the Chief Justice of Iran after the Iranian Revolution. Ardebili was the acting president of Iran after Abolhassan Banisadr was impeached, and he resigned as Chief Justice in 1989 after Khomeini's death. Ardebili opposed Mahmoud Ahmedinejad's regime and took part in the protests of the late 2000s. He died in Tehran on 23 November 2016 at the age of 90.
