Abdi Hasan Awale

Abdi Hasan Awale (born 1948) was the Interior Minister of Somalia under the United Somali Congress of Mohamed Farah Aidid.

Biography[]

Abdi Hasan Awale was born in 1948 in Galkacyo, Somalia, and he was from the same clan as Mohamed Farah Aidid. He became the Interior Minister of Somalia under Aidid's United Somali Congress government, and he was captured by the United States during the Somali Civil War in 1993. By 2001, however, he was the police chief of Mogadishu, and his forces were the last anti-Islamic Courts Union forces to surrender in 2006. He joined forces with Ethiopia to fight back against the ICU, and he returned to Mogadishu in 2007. In 2012, he became President of Galmudug, an autonomous state of central Somalia.
