Abderrahman Bouanane

Abderrahman Bouanane (born 1994) was a Moroccan Islamic State supporter who carried out the 2017 Turku attack in Finland, killing 2 people and wounding 8.

Biography[]

Abderrahman Bouanane was born in Morocco in 1994, and he attempted to seek asylum in Germany. He committed crimes there under several different identities from 2015 to 2016, and he arrived in Finland at the beginning of 2016 under a false identity. He became a radical Islamist, and, on 18 August 2017, stabbed 10 people in Turku, southwest Finland, killing 2 women and injuring 8 other people. His attack was motivated by the US-led coalition's airstrikes on Raqqa during the Syrian Civil War. On 15 June 2018,he was sentenced to life in prison by a Finnish court.
