Abdel Karim Rubash

Abdel Karim Rubash (died 16 July 2015) was the deputy commander of Quds Force, the elite special forces of Iran. He was killed during the Second Battle of Zabadani during the Syrian Civil War, and was the highest-ranking Iranian general to die in the war as of then.

Biography[]

Abdel Karim Rubash spent the better part of four years as a commander of Quds Force in the Syrian Civil War, and he came up with the plan to import Hezbollah fighters from Lebanon to help the Syrian Arab Republic fight the Sunni Muslim Islamist rebels after they rose up in 2011. He sent arms to Hezbollah through Syria, although these convoys were bombed by Israel several times. On 16 July 2015 he was killed in the Second Battle of Zabadani by sniper fire when his convoy was ambushed by Jaish al-Haramoun Islamist rebels.
