Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi

Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi is the leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) and a member of al-Qaeda.

Biography[]

Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi was born in Libya and was trained for five years in an al-Qaeda/Mujahideen training camp in Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan War. al-Hasidi fought against the United States from 2001 to 2002 during their occupation of Afghanistan, and in 2002 he was captured in Peshawar, Pakistan. He was held in Libya until 2008, when he took command of Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) forces fighting against the government of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi during the Libyan Civil War. In 2012, he ran for local office in the city of Derna.
