Biography[]
Abd al-Malik al-Muzaffar was the son of Almanzor, the de facto ruler of al-Andalus. When his father died, he became the hajib (chamberlain) of the Caliphate of Cordoba, and he responded to Ramon Borrell of Barcelona's 1003 expedition to Lleida by raiding the County of Barcelona. al-Muzaffar was defeated at the Battle of Tora and again at Albesa shortly after, ending his campaign. In 1008, he left Cordoba with the goal of raiding Castile, but he suddenly fell ill and died at the convent of Armilat during the winter campaign.
