Abbot Manfredi was an Italian Franciscan priest. During World War II, he hid the Sicilian Mafia boss Croce Malo at his monastery, and, in 1943, he gave shelter to the bandit Salvatore Giuliano. Manfredi's connection to both men resulted in Malo using Manfredi as a go-between with Giuliano ahead of the 1946 general election, and Malo persuaded Giuliano to help him rig the election against the PCI and PSI.
