Biography[]

Abbas Gharabaghi was born in Tabriz, Iran in 1918, and he served in the gendarmes under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, later rising to command them. In 1978, he was appointed Minister of the Interior, and he became the head of the Regency Council in January 1979 after the Shah's flight from Iran amidst the chaos of the Iranian Revolution.
