Abbas Gharabaghi (1 November 1918-14 October 2000) was Minister of the Interior of Iran from 27 August 1978 to 4 January 1979, succeeding Asadollah Nasre Esfahani and preceding Sadeq Amir-Azizi.
Biography[]
Abbas Gharabaghi was born in Tabriz, Iran in 1918, and he served in the gendarmes under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, later rising to command them. In 1978, he was appointed Minister of the Interior, and he became the head of the Regency Council in January 1979 after the Shah's flight from Iran amidst the chaos of the Iranian Revolution. Gharabaghi tacitly supported the revolution by withdrawing his support from Prime Minister Shapour Bakhtiar, and he went into exile in France, dying in Paris in 2000.
