Abarshahr was a Sassanid province province in northern Iran, with Nishapur serving as its capital. It existed from 240 to 651 AD, and it was founded by Shah Shapur I; in 651, Shah Yazdegerd III was murdered by one of his own generals, ending the empire. In 652 AD, the former Abarshahr region was conquered by the Muslim Rashidun Caliphate.
