The Abantes were an Ancient Greek tribe native to Euboea. During the Bronze Age, the Abantes settled in Thesprotia and established colonies on Chios and in Asia Minor, and Elephenor led an Abantian contingent to aid the Greeks during the Trojan War; Elephenor was slain by the Trojan warrior Agenor. The colony in Thresprotis was later conquered by Apollonia, while the Abantian colony on Chios was defeated and its survivors forced to flee. By the time of the Peloponnesian War, Euboea and its neighboring islands were called the "Abantis Islands".
