The AMIA bombing occurred on 18 July 1994 when Hezbollah suicide bomber Ibrahim Hussein Berro drove a Renault Trafic van, carrying 606 pounds of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil, into the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) building of Buenos Aires, Argentina, killing 85 people and injuring over 300. The massive explosion caused a total collapse of the building, causing massive structural damage in the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentina. The Argentine government prosecutor Alberto Nisman claimed that Iran had directed Hezbollah to carry out the bombing, and that Iran had ordered the attack in response to the suspension of nuclear cooperation between Argentina and Iran in the aftermath of the 1992 attack on Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires. The AMIA case was sabotaged by government corruption and cover-ups, however, with a federal judge finding all suspects in the "local connection" innocent, the police botching an investigative procedure on film, and with Alberto Nisman being murdered in 2014. The AMIA case was rife with injustice and corruption, and justice was never served to the perpetrators of the attack.
