Andrew Oliver Tyrell (1914-1968) was a Democratic New Orleans city councilman during the 1960s. He was assassinated by Lincoln Clay in 1968.
Biography[]
Andrew Oliver Tyrell was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1914, and he worked as a farming equipment salesman before being elected to the City Council as a conservative Southern Democrat. Tyrell was staunchly in favor of segregation measures and was in the pocket of the Marcano crime family and the New Orleans Democratic political machine, and, in 1968, he was forced to pay blackmail money to the Marcanos, who possessed information on Tyrell's family troubles. Lincoln Clay tailed blackmailer Gianmarco Vecellio to the New Orleans car park where Tyrell was waiting to meet with the Marcano mobsters, and he proceeded to hurl a grenade under Vecellio's car, creating an explosion which killed Tyrell, Vecellio, and the others involved in the meeting.
