
Abel Lawrence Foster (17 September 1802-21 May 1877) was a member of the US House of Representatives (W-NY 23) from 4 March 1841 to 3 March 1843, succeeding Nehemiah H. Earll and Edward Rogers and preceding Orville Robinson.
Biography[]
Abel Lawrence Foster was born in Littleton, Massachusetts in 1802. He practiced law in Morrisville, New York before serving in Congress and later settling in Tysons Corner, Virginia. He supported the Union during the American Civil War and served as a tax commissioner, helping to sell Robert E. Lee's estate to the federal government to establish Arlington National Cemetery.
