Arthur Harry Moore (3 July 1877-18 November 1952) was Governor of New Jersey (D) from 19 January 1926 to 15 January 1929 (succeeding George Sebastian Silzer and preceding Morgan Foster Larson), from 19 January 1932 to 3 January 1935 (succeeding Larson, and preceding Clifford Ross Powell), and from 18 January 1938 to 21 January 1941 (succeeding Harold G. Hoffman and preceding Charles Edison). He also served as a US Senator from 3 January 1935 to 17 January 1938, succeeding Hamilton Fish Kean and preceding John Gerald Milton.
Biography[]
Arthur Harry Moore was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1877, and he graduated from Cooper Union in New York City. Moore was involved with Democratic Party politics for decades, serving as Secretary to the Mayor from 1908 to 1911, City Collector from 1911 to 1913, and Jersey City Commissioner from 1913 to 1925. In 1922, he was admitted to the bar. Moore served the first of his three terms as Governor of New Jersey from 1926 to 1929, followed by terms from 1932 to 1935 and 1938 to 1941. From 1935 to 1938, he also briefly served in the US Senate. He died in a car accident in 1952.
