Augustus Herman Pettibone (21 January 1835-26 November 1918) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-TN 1) from 4 March 1881 to 3 March 1887, succeeding Robert Love Taylor and preceding Roderick R. Butler.
Biography[]
Augustus Herman Pettibone was born in Bedford, Ohio in 1835, and he practiced law in La Crosse, Wisconsin before serving in the 20th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. After the war, he became a lawyer in Greeneville, Tennessee and served as an alderman from 1866 to 1868, as a judicial circuit attorney general from 1 869 to 1870, as an assistant US district attorney from 1871 to 1880, in the US House of Representatives from 1881 to 1887, in the state house from 1897 to 1899, and as a Land Office agent form 1899 to 1905. He died in Nashville in 1918.
