9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen

The 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen was a German Waffen-SS armored division that existed from 31 December 1942 to 5 May 1945 during World War II. The division was created out of young men from Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, and they were sent to man panzers as armored troops. The division first saw action in March 1944 in Poland, and the division was moved to Normandy in June 1944. The division was forced to retreat into the Netherlands, fighting off the Allied invasion in Operation Market Garden, and the division was moved to Hungary after being defeated at the Battle of the Bulge. On 5 May 1945, the division surrendered to the US Army at Steyr, Upper Austria, Austria at the end of the war.
