
The 8th North Carolina Infantry Regiment was a North Carolina regiment of the Confederate States Army which was active from September 1861 to April 1865 during the American Civil War. Raised in Pasquotank, Perquimans, Camden, Currituck, Edgecombe, New Hanover, Franklin, Granville, Cumberland, Chatham, Harnett, Warren, Rowan, Greene, and Alamance, the 8th was captured at the Battle of Roanoke Island before being exchanged and defending Fort Wagner. The regiment was later sent north during the Overland Campaign and the Siege of Petersburg and surrendered at Bentonville.
