The 83rd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment was a Union Army infantry regiment which was active from 8 September 1861 to June 1865 during the American Civil War. The regiment was assembled at Erie, and it included five companies from Erie County, four from Crawford County, two from Allegheny County, two from Dauphin County, one from Forest County. The regiment was attached to the Army of the Potomac, and its commander Strong Vincent was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. The regiment ended the war at Appomattox, Virginia.
