The 61st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment was a Union Army regiment which was active from 25 October 1861 to 14 July 1865 during the American Civil War. It was organized in New York City, with all but two of its companies being from the city; Company C was from Hamilton and Company I was from Albany. The regiment was attached to the Army of the Potomac and first fought at the 1862 Battle of Yorktown, fighting in every major battle until the Battle of Appomattox Court House in 1865. Francis C. Barlow and Nelson A. Miles commanded the regiment during the war.
