The 57th (West Middlesex) Regiment of Foot was a British Army regiment that was active from 1755 to 1881. Raised in Somerset and Gloucester for service in the Seven Years' War, the regiment was dispatched to Charleston in February 1776 for service in the American Revolutionary War and fought at the Battle of Long Island, the Battle of Forts Clinton and Montgomery, and the Siege of Yorktown. The regiment was moved to Nova Scotia in October 1783 and to England in November 1790. The regiment later served in the Low Countries and Caribbean during the French Revolutionary Wars, in the Peninsular War, in India, in the Crimean War, in the New Zealand Wars, and in the Anglo-Zulu War before being merged into the Middlesex Regiment.
