The 4th Rhode Island Infantry Regiment was a Union Army regiment from Rhode Island which was active from 1861 to 15 October 1864 during the American Civil War. It was organized directly from Providence under Colonel Justus McCarthy, and it first saw action during Ambrose E. Burnside's North Carolina campaign in early 1862 before being reassigned to the Army of the Potomac in Virginia. The 4th Rhode Island then fought at the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, and the Siege of Petersburg before being mustered out in 1864.
