
The 3rd South Carolina Infantry Regiment was a Confederate States Army infantry regiment from South Carolina which was active from March 1861 to 26 April 1865 during the American Civil War. Raised in Laurens, Colleton, Pickens, Spartanburg, and Newberry Counties, it first saw action at the First Battle of Bull Run. It participated in the campaigns of the Army of Northern Virginia from the Seven Days Battles to the Battle of Gettysburg, and it fought at the Battle of Chickamauga and the Battle of Knoxville before returning to the Army of Northern Virginia during the Overland Campaign. Its last battle was the Battle of Bentonville, and there were 191 men present for duty at its surrender in April 1865.
