Red Army

The 3rd Belorussian Front was a Red Army front which existed from 24 April 1944 to 15 August 1945 during World War II. The front replaced the Soviet Western Front, and Ivan Chernyakhovsky led the front during the advance from Vitebsk in Russia to Koenigsberg in East Prussia, pushing the Axis forces back through Belarus and the Baltics. The front would lose 166,838 dead, 9,292 missing, and 667,297 wounded during the war, and Chernyakhovksy was killed during the Battle of Koenigsberg in 1945. Aleksandr Vasilevsky led the front until April 1945, when Hovhannes Bagramyan led the front. It was dissolved in August 1945 after the war's end.
