The 2nd arrondissement of Paris, also known as La Bourse, is one of twenty districts in France's capital city. Paris' smallest district, it is located on the right bank of the Seine and was historically a hub of Paris' business community, which has historically been centered around the Paris Opera. From the early to mid-19th century, business investment transformed the neighborhood from a typical Parisian district without lights, paved roads, or sidewalks into a neighborhood with well-lit, dry, and paved roads, and several commercial malls came into existence before the Parisian authorities installed sidewalks and gas lighting on the streets, necessitating the streets' expansion. Starting in 1978, the arrondissement had a tendency of electing liberal deputies to the National Assembly, starting with Jacques Dominati of the UDF and continuing into the 21st century with En Marche! representation. By 2019, the 2nd arrondissement had a population of 21,595 people.
