Lord Baltimore's banner

The 2nd Maryland Infantry Regiment was a Union Army regiment from Maryland which was active from May 1861 to 1865 during the American Civil War. The regiment was raised in Baltimore by Colonel John Sommer, its soldiers among the 70,000 Marylanders who fought for the Union during the war; manwhile, the Confederacy organized its own 2nd Maryland Infantry. The regiment first served in North Carolina before serving with the Army of the Potomac from the Second Battle of Bull Run to the Battle of Fredericksburg, in the West at the Siege of Knoxville, and again with the Army of the Potomac from the Siege of Petersburg until the war's end.
