The 2nd Guards Tank Army was a Soviet Red Army tank army formed in February 1943 for service with the 1st Belorussian Front. The army had between 500 and 800 tanks, and it took part in the Operation Kutuzov offensive of 1943. The tank army would take part in the recapture of Ukraine before participating in the liberation of Poland and the advance into Germany. The tank army ended the war after the 1945 Battle of Berlin, and the tank army was stationed in East Germany until the 1970s. After the end of the Cold War, the 2nd Guards Tank Army was revived as a Russian Army unit, and it was a part of the Volga headquarters.
