The 28th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment was a Confederate States Army regiment which was active from June 1861 to April 1865 during the American Civil War. It was organized at Lynchburg, Virginia from the men of Botetourt, Craig, Bedford, Campbell, and Roanoke Counties, and it was attached to the Army of Northern Virginia during the war, first fighting at the First Battle of Bull Run in July 1861 and ending the war at Appomattox on 9 April 1865. It suffered 50% losses at the Battle of Gettysburg, and many were captured at the Battle of Sayler's Creek in 1865; 3 officers and 51 men survived to surrender on 9 April 1865.
