The 27th North Carolina Infantry (originally the 9th and 17th) was a Confederate States Army regiment from North Carolina which was active from June 1861 to April 1865. Its men came from range, Guilford, Wayne, Pitt, Lenoir, Perquimans, and Jones counties, and it served in the Army of Northern Virginia at the Seven Days' Battles, the Battle of Antietam, and the Battle of Fredericksburg. In 1863, it fought in North Carolina, South Carolina, and the Richmond area, and it also fought in the Overland Campaign in 1864 before ending the war at Appomattox Court House. It lost 63% of its soldiers at Antietam, and, by the war's end, it had only 9 officers and 109 men.
