272nd Volksgrenadier Division

The 272nd Volksgrenadier Division was a German volksgrenadier division that existed from 17 September 1944 to 14 April 1945. The division had 6 battalions (10,000 men total), consisting of Heer soldiers and retasked Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe personnel. The division first saw combat at the Battle of Huertgen Forest, including at Bergstein, Hill 400, Simmerath, and the Roer River dams. The division was later forced to abandon Kesternich and retreat to the Rhine, and it surrendered in the Ruhr Pocket in April 1945.
