The 26th Marine Regiment was a regiment of the US Marine Corps, founded in 1944.
History[]
The 26th Marine Regiment was activated in 1944, and they saw action at the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II in 1945. After the May 1967 battle of Hill 881, the 26th Marines took over responsibility for Khe Sanh's defense, and they launched search-and-destroy operations around the area. They aided in the 1968 defense of the city during the Vietnam War's battle of Khe Sanh, and a Presidential Unit Citation was awarded to the regiment. Since the end of the Vietnam War, the unit has been deactivated.
