The 26 Baku Commissars were a group of Bolshevik revolutionary leaders who headed the Baku commune in present-day Azerbaijan during the Russian Civil War. In 1918, the commissars fought against the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and Mensheviks, leading to their overthrow on 26 July, and the Bolshevik commissars briefly escaped on 14 September 1918 when Red Army troops rescued the commissars from the prison as Ottoman forces reconquered Baku. However, the commissars were executed upon arrival in Krasnovodsk on 20 September 1918.
