The 23rd Panzer Division was a German panzer division which existed from 1942 to 1945, spending its entire combat history on the Eastern Front of World War II against the Soviet Union. On 14 March 1942, the division was established in France, and the division was sent to Army Group South during the war with the USSR. In 1944, the unit fought in Moldova and Poland, and the division fought in major defensive battles in Hungary. In March 1945, the majority of the division was destroyed at Szekesfehervar by the Red Army, and the remnants of the division surrendered to the British Army in May 1945.
