The 23rd North Carolina Infantry Regiment was a North Carolina regiment of the Confederate States Army which was active from July 1861 to April 1865 during the American Civil War. Raised in Anson, Lincoln, Montgomery, Richmond, Granville, Catawba, and Gaston counties, the regiment was attached to the Army of Northern Virginia from the Battle of Williamsburg to the surrender at Appomattox and suffered 40% casualties at the Battle of Chancellorsville and 80% at the Battle of Gettysburg.
