The 22nd South Carolina Infantry Regiment was a South Carolinian regiment of the Confederate States Army that was active from December 1861 to April 1865 during the American Civil War. Raised in Oconee and Edgefield counties, the regiment was attached to the Army of Northern Virginia from the Second Battle of Bull Run to the Battle of Antietam before being sent to South Carolina and Mississippi. In 1864, the regiment returned to Virginia in time for the Siege of Petersburg, and 216 of its 360 soldiers were killed or wounded by the explosion at the Battle of the Crater. Many more were lost at the Battle of Sailor's Creek, and it surrendered at Appomattox.
