20th arrondissement

The 20th arrondissement is one of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France, located on the right bank of the Seine. After the French Revolution, the private landholdings in the area were successively purchased by the farmers of servants of the great lords who had owned them before the Revolution, and, in 1859, the Second French Empire annexed Belleville into Paris and created the 20th arrondissement. The arrondissement includes Montreuil-sous-Bois, Belleville, Saint-Mande, and Les Lilas. The arrondissement is solidly leftist; by 2022, the 20th arrondissement had 5 Socialist Party councilors, 3 EELV councilors, 2 PCF councilors, 2 Generation.s councilors, 1 La France Insoumise councilor, and only 1 conservative councilor, from The Republicans. In 2019, the 20th arrondissement had a population of 194,994 people.
