The 2024 Homs offensive occurred in December 2024 when Syrian rebels launched an offensive against the government-held city of Homs amid Operation Deterrence of Aggression.
On 5 December 2024, rebel forces led by Tahrir al-Sham captured the major city of Hama and almost immediately moved on to attack Homs to the south. Government forces withdrew from al-Rastan, while Talbiseh fell to the rebels. Local militants captured the Syrian Arab Army's engineering battalion facility on al-Rastan's outskirts and replenished their ammunition and supply of military vehicles, and Syria and Russia responded by launching airstrikes on rebel positions in Talbiseh and al-Rastan. An SAA convoy of 200 vehicles carrying weapons and ammunition was redirected to Homs to aid in the preparations for a battle with the rebels. The Russian Air Force attempted to blunt the rebel advance by launching an airstrike on the al-Rastan bridge between Homs and Hama, but, on 6 December, the rebels continued their advance on the city as government forces withdrew from several towns north of the city. By that afternoon, pro-government forces had completely withdrawn from Homs towards the city of Latakia, with only local pro-government gunmen remaining in the Shia-majority neighborhoods of the city. On the morning of 8 December, the rebels declared victory in Homs, cutting off Latakia Governorate from the rest of the country.
