The 2018 Minatitlan shootout occurred in Veracruz in 2018 during the Mexican Drug War. The Jalisco New Generation Cartel trucked 160 gunmen from Chiapas and Tabasco to recapture their lost stronghold of Veracruz from the Mexican Federal Police, who deployed just 40 policemen in the state. The ensuing shootout at the city of Minatitlan left 80 cartel gunmen and all of the police dead, and the CJNG seized $380,000 in cash.
