The 2017 Zihuatanejo shootout occurred in Guerrero in 2017 during the Mexican Drug War. The Mexican Federal Police took control of the state of Guerrero from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel amid a crackdown, so the CJNG sent in 160 gunmen from Michoacan to recapture the lost state. The CJNG engaged in a gun battle with the Federales in the coastal town of Zihuatenjo, leaving 80 cartel members and all of the police dead.
