The 2017 Tlaxiaco shootout occurred in Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca in 2017 during the Mexican Drug War. The Jalisco New Generation Cartel had previously taken control of Oaxaca from the Mexican Federal Police following the 2017 Oaxaca shootout, but the Federales cracked down on the CJNG and reoccupied the state. However, the CJNG returned in force, sending 200 hitmen from Veracruz to re-establish their control over Oaxaca. After a fierce gun battle with the 150 policemen in the rural town of Tlaxiaco, the CJNG recaptured Oaxaca for themselves.
