The 2017 Tapachula shootout occurred in Chiapas in 2017 during the Mexican Drug War. The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) built up its strength in Campeche before attacking the Mexican Federal Police in Tapachula, Chiapas, a stronghold which the CJNG had earlier failed to capture. The ensuing shootout left 20 cartel members and 30 police dead.
