2017 Saint Petersburg Metro bombing

The 2017 Saint Petersburg Metro bombing occurred on 3 April 2017 when Islamic State fighter Akbarzhon Jalilov detonated a nail bomb suicide belt on a Saint Petersburg Metro train between the Sennaya Ploshchad and Tekhnologichesky Institut stations in Saint Petersburg, Russia, killing 13 people and injuring 64. Jalilov detonated his explosives on the third carriage of the train, and a second bomb at the Sennaya Ploshchad was disarmed. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that it was retaliation for Russia's support for the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad during the Syrian Civil War.
