2017 Manchester Arena bombing

The 2017 Manchester Arena bombing occurred at 10:33 PM on 22 May 2017 when Islamic State-affiliated suicide bomber Salman Abedi blew himself up in the foyer area of the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England as large crowds of civilians left an Ariana Grande concert, killing 22 people and injuring over 59. The arena was packed with 21,000 people, most of them women and young girls, and many of the attendees were exiting through the foyer to buy concert merchandise as Grande sang the closing song; it was then that the bomber detonated a bomb containing nails and bolts, inflicting heavy losses on the civilians. Several taxi drivers turned off their meters and drove people away from the scene of the attack, and a large fleet of ambulances streamed towards the arena to treat the wounded. The attack was noted as being especially horrific and despicable because most of its targets were young girls and teenagers. The day after the attack, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
