The 2016 Nizhny Novgorod attack was a failed Islamic State attack on a Russian military base in Nizhny Novgorod that occurred on 23 October 2016. Ajdad Bayaati and an accomplice drove towards a Russian Army military base in Nizhny Novgorod, but they got into an altercation with a policeman on the road. The two men fired on the policeman, who proceeded to gun both of them down. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, and the Amaq News Agency released a video on 27 October 2016 showing Bayaati pledging allegiance to ISIS.
