The 2016 Cerritos shootout occurred in 2016 during the Mexican Drug War. The Jalisco New Generation Cartel aimed to finish off the Beltran Leyva Cartel by moving 40 hitmen from Hidalgo to attack San Luis Potosi, which was defended by just 20 Beltran Leyva gunmen. However, in the ensuing shootout, the Beltran Leyvas successfully defended their turf, killing 20 Jalisco gunmen in the process.
