The' '2015 Thalys train attack occurred on 21 August 2015 when Islamic State terrorist Ayoub el-Khazzani opened fire on passengers of a Thalys train on its way from Amsterdam to Paris, wounding 3 people. He fired at the passengers until his assault rifle jammed, and French, American, and British passengers confronted the attacker; American soldiers Spencer Stone and Alex Skarlatos and their childhood friend Anthony Sadler tackled and subdued el-Khazzani. The passengers who resisted the attacker were awarded the Legion of Honor, France's highest decoration.
