
The 1st Virginia Cavalry Regiment was a Virginian cavalry regiment of the Confederate States Army that was active from July 1861 to April 1865 during the American Civil War. Raised from Amelia, Augusta, Berkeley, Clarke, Frederick, Gloucester, Jefferson, Loudoun, Rockbridge, Rockingham, and Washington counties and organized at Winchester, the regiment first fought at the First Battle of Bull Run before being attached to the Army of Northern Virginia from the Peninsula Campaign to the Battle of Appomattox, with the exception of the Valley Campaigns of 1864.
