
The Königlich Bayerisches 1. Infanterie-Regiment "König" was a regiment of the Bavarian Army which was based in Munich from 1778 to 1918. It was a life regiment from 1778 to 1790, a grenadier life regiment from 1790 to 1799, a life regiment from 1800 to 1811, and a line infantry regiment from 1811 to 1918, and it served in the French Revolutionary Wars, Napoleonic Wars, Austro-Prussian War, Franco-Prussian War, and World War I. Many of its veterans joined the Görlitz Freikorps after demobilization in December 1918.
