The 1st North Carolina Sharpshooter Battalion, also known as the 9th Battalion, was a Confederate States Army sharpshooter battalion from North Carolina which was active from March 1862 to April 1865. Raised in Yadkin and Forsyth Counties, it was attached to the 21st North Carolina Infantry Regiment, and it served in the Army of Northern Virginia from the Seven Days Battles to the Battle of Mine Run before serving in the Carolinas in the winter of 1863-1864. The battalion returned to North Carolina in time for the Overland Campaign, and, at the end of the war, only 3 officers and 65 men were present to surrender.
