The 1st Guards Tank Army was a formation of the Soviet Red Army and the Russian Army that existed from 1942 to 1998 and from 2014 onwards. Led by Kirill Moskalenko, the army was created as a part of the Stalingrad Front, and it would fight in the counterattacks against Nazi Germany in western Russia in 1942 and 1943, including the Battle of Kursk. The army would later see action in the Vistula-Oder Operation and the Battle of Berlin, pushing through Poland and ending the war in Germany. The tank army existed until 1998, and it was revived in 2014 as a part of the Russian Army.
